Answer:

We get to read and hear so much about atmosphere and related terms like global warming, greenhouse gases etc. that one could almost get bored with the topic! There is a big ‘NO’ here. We just cannot afford to ignore this warning. We want the fruits of nature (literally!) but would put in no effort to replenish or sustain it! It just does not work that way! We all know that some efforts are needed for sustenance in life, be it regular or atmospheric!

We all know that in simple terms, atmosphere is the air surrounding us. We literally live it. No air, no breathing and not only that, we need it to be oxygen rich! So what do we do for its sustenance? I would say not much or nothing.

Let us give some serious thought to the very basic thing we need for our living – clean oxygenated air in the atmosphere. It is not easy to get a breath of fresh air these days, even in mornings. The atmosphere is so full of harmful gases through pollutants that we have a smog filled atmosphere now! It is visible to us so let us not ignore it.

We always think that such a monstrous issue with global impact cannot be undone by a mere individual. True, but a small step by each individual can be added up to have a collective impact for a positive result.  So let us take that first step to improve our atmosphere and make it healthy and ensure we follow it through our life to bring about the change that is very much, the need of the hour. So how do we save our atmosphere and make it heathier?

The first step towards improvement would be use our natural resources like energy, water etc. prudently without wasting them and conserve wherever possible. Energy saving could be done by using electricity, only when needed (applies while using all appliances including computers) and put it off when not in use and use water sparingly and without wasting even a small bit by following proper discipline in its usage.

We talk about saving atmosphere and then say we should save our natural resources that are earth bound! We do so because, by reducing the use of natural resources, we need to produce that much less energy through fossil fuels which is the main villain that emits harmful gases in our atmosphere leading to pollutants in the air, also causing imbalance in our eco system that sustains all forms of life including plants and animals.

The government is also encouraging the use of renewable energy sources like wind energy, solar energy, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels for energy needs. At an individual level, people could use solar panels for generation of energy for their basic needs, thereby, contributing to the cause of renewable energy usage.

Let us buck up and do our bit in making our atmosphere, pollution free by taking individual efforts to collectively have an impact on a national and global level. We can walk instead of using a vehicle for short distances which has twofold benefit of fitness and burning less fossil fuel, use car pool for daily commute, start cycling for that twofold benefit again, conserve energy in our daily life, develop the habit of reduce, reuse, recycle and whatever is needed to do our bit in contributing to a healthy atmosphere, to lead a disease free, healthier and fruitful life.

Explanation:

Making healthy choices is important, but it's not enough to counteract poor environmental conditions that affect our health.

Because our environment has a large impact on our health and well-being, an important part of living well is doing our part to take care of the environment. We can work together as proactive communities to foster a safe, happy, and healthy world for years to come.

10 Small Things You Can Do For Cleaner Air

Breathing polluted air can seriously affect your health. From watery eyes to coughing to serious respiratory problems, pollution puts a real damper on your health and well-being.

It's much more enjoyable to stay active when you're breathing clean air. Check out these ten simple things you can do to play a part in keeping our air clean and healthy.

At Home

Avoid using chemical pesticides and fertilizers as much as possible. Many of these products emit nitrous oxide, which is a greenhouse gas.

Limit use of gas-powered tools like lawnmowers and leaf blowers—even small engines pollute.

Avoid burning wood unless it’s your only source of heat.

Grilling? Consider using a natural gas or propane grill instead of charcoal or wood.

On the Go

Walk, jog, bike, or use another form of active transportation whenever possible. You’re doing yourself and the environment a favor.

When driving, “chain” your trips together to reduce travel time and emissions—drive to the farthest destination first. Consider carpooling and car-sharing programs for routine commutes.

Don’t idle. If you’re going to be parked longer than you’d be at a stop light, turn off your vehicle.

Get to know your local mass transit system. Using buses, trains, and streetcars is a great way to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

In the market for a new vehicle? Factor fuel efficiency and emission estimates into your decision.

Don’t fill up your car at the hottest time of the day. Filling up your car in high temperatures increases the amount of ozone released into the air
