Answer:

It is known from various sources that the Cholas had trade relations with China and South-East Asian countries. The presence of the Indian traders in the Chinese Sea is also referred to in the Japanese records.

Particularly, under Rajaraja and his son Rajendra I the Cholas had regular commercial intercourse with South-East Asia and China. Under the Cholas Mamallapuram (Present Mahabalipuram in Chennai) was the principle port. With the help of a strong navy the Chola rulers dominated the Malabar and Coromondal coasts.

The Cholas also sent successful expedition to Srilanka and Maldives islands. The Cholas attained success in bringing the Sailendra Empire under control. Such were the maritime activities of the Cholas.
