The volcanoes form when tectonic plates collide and one plate is pushed beneath another and the tectonic plates also move away from one another to produce volcanoes and hot magma rises from the mantle at mid ocean ridges pushing the plates apart but this molten rock then rises and erupts on the surface building up a volcano. A volcano is an opening in the earths crust through which lava volcanic ash and gases escape and beneath a volcano liquid magma containing dissolved gases rises through cracks in the earth's crust as the magma rises pressure decreases allowing the gases to form bubbles.
