KHILAFAT MOVEMENT:

• Khilafat movement was started by Indians Muslims from both Muslim league and INC.

• It was launched in the year 1919 and lasted upto 1924.

• This movement was launched by two brothers namely Shaukat Ali and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

• This movement was launched against the Britishers.

• During first World war, the Britishers removed the sovereignty of Caliph in Turkey.

• Caliph was the political and religious head of Sunni muslims.

• Hence, to restore the power of Caliph the Khilafat movement was launched.

• This movement was supported by Mahatma Gandhi to unite Muslims and Hindus in freedom struggle.
