- High rise buildings are massive structures which exert tremendous pressure on the ground and are likely to sink.So to avoid sinking, their foundations are made wide, to decrease the pressure on the ground. As we know that same force acting on a smaller area exerts a larger pressure but smaller pressure on larger area.
- The pressure exerted by water in the oceans increases with depth. Very deep down, the pressure is enough to crush the human body. That is why deep sea divers wear special suits which can withstand such high pressure and prevent their bodies to crush.
- The wall of dam is made thicker at the bottom because pressure exerted by a liquid increases with Depth . Thus as depth increases more and more pressure is exerted by water on the walls of dam .
- A sharp knife has a very thin edge to its blade. A sharp knife cuts objects better because due to its very thin edge, the force of our hand falls over very small area of the object producing a large pressure. ... On the other hand, a blunt knife has a thicker edge.
