Answer:
The soil replenishes its nutrients when the farmer grows one crop after the other crop in succession which is called crop rotation.
Explanation:
Crop Rotation is the practice of cultivating different crops in succession in a specified order over the same agricultural land. This practice of crop cultivation is beneficial because it prevents the field from the depletion of one kind of nutrient from mono-cropping, prevents pest and weed resistance also prevents soil erosion.
Crop Rotation helps in replenishing the lost nutrients back in the soil. Each crop has a requirement of one nutrient over the other. If the same crop is cultivated back to back the field becomes depleted of that particular nutrient.
The cultivation of corn or wheat in one season leads to the depletion of nitrogen in the soil as corn requires a high amount of nitrogen for its growth. The next season farmer should plant leguminous crops. Leguminous plants like peas live in symbiotic association with nitrogen-fixing bacteria. The nitrogen-fixing bacteria live inside the root nodules of the leguminous plants and fix nitrogen.
The nitrogen fixed by these bacteria in a water-soluble form would be available for the next round of the crops which would be cultivated in succession.
