Q: Find the number such that its 4th part exceeds its 6th part by 6.

Why would be use "=" in the solution when the question says exceeds ie., more than or greater than.

x/4 exceeds x/6 +6
how come it will become x/4=x/6+6 ?

You're solving an inequality, when solving inequalities involving a graph then you'd have to make them equal for, when plotting data on a graph, you can't have a line that's < or > than certain points.

Thus, you'd have to replace the > by =
