Let the triangle be named ABC with altitude AD

AB = x, AC = 12 cm, BD = 12 cm, AD and CD are equal sides.

In ADC, AD = CD ⇒ ADC is isosceles .

by pythagorus theorem,

12² = AD² + CD²

144 = 2AD²

AD² = 72 ⇒ AD = √72

NOW, In ABD,

x² = 12² + 72 = 144 + 72 = 216 ⇒ x =√216
