Q)Give reason for the following:-
a) A sponge is a solid but can be easily compressed.
b) Clothes dry faster on a windy day.
c) Smell of perfume travel a few yards away.

Hi friend,

1)Sponge is a solid still it can be compressed as sponge has air spaces between them and air is filled in those air spaces, so when we compress the sponge the air is expelled out of those spaces and hence the sponge is compressed and when we releases it attains it's initial position as the air is again filled in those spaces.

2)As we know that evaporation has many causes, one of the cause of evaporation is wind, so on a Windy day the evaporation increases and clothes dry quickly.

3)This is because of Diffusion phenomenon. When the perfume is sprayed, as we know the particles of gas moves faster and cover the whole space, so the perfume smell diffuses with the air and spread all over the room.
