a) Why does Ice Floats on water ?

Ans :- Ice being a Solid, is expected to have more density than water and it should not float over water. But, the density of ice is actually less. This is on account of the reason that the structure of ice is porous. Therefore, For a given mass , the volume of ice is more than that of water.

b) Why does a gas fill completely the vessel in which it is kept?

Ans :- This happens because of fast diffusion of the particles in a gas. The number of vacant spaces or voids in the Gaseous state is very large. This means that the particles of a gas move at a very fast speed. They readily fill completely the vessel in which the gas kept. Thus, the volume of the gas is the same as that of the vessel.

c) Latent heat of evaporation of two liquids A and B is 100J/KG and 150J/KG respectively. Which one can produce more cooling effect and why?

Ans :- The liquid B can cause more cooling effect than the liquid A , because it absorbs more heat from the surrounding during the change of state from liquid to the vapours.
