  • CFCs are very stable
  • Not degraded by any biological process
  • Found to persist in the atmosphere
  • React with the ozone layer
  • Causes hole in the ozone layer.
  • Ultraviolet radiation enters the earth through this hole and affect various forms of life.

Chloroflurocarbons (CFCs) :

》CFCs are gaseous compounds also known as ozone depleting substance.

》CFCs contains Carbon, Chlorine, Fluorine and Hydrogen.

》These are used in refrigerents and also in manufacturing of foams.

Effect on Environment -

● CFCs are responsible for depletion or destroying the ozone layer which protects us from harmful UV rays.

● It increases the temperature of the Earth, thereby contributing to Global Warming.

Effects On Living Beings -

》 On direct contact, it causes skin cancer.

》It has negative impact of disturbing the heart rhythm which can even lead to death of a living organism.

》It weakens the immune system of living bodies.

》It causes difficulty in breathing and damage to Kidneys and Liver on inhalation.

》It can even lead to eye damage or can cause cataracts in eyes.
