Aim:to see if a given item contains fat.
Materials required : a ten inch long strip of brown paper and ten different samples of food.
Procedure:
1. Mark ten divisions, each of 1 inch, on the strip of brown paper. Write the makes of each food sample you have chosen to test for fats.
2. Crush each item, pressing it on the paper in the marked section. Look for oily spots, which indicate the presence of fat, in each section.
Record your observation.

Aim: to test if a food sample contains proteins.
Materials required : a dilute solution of egg white, copper sulphate solution, and dilute sodium hydroxide.
Procedure :
1. Take 2ml of egg white solution and mix it with an equal volume of dilute sodium hydroxide.
2. Add a few drops of copper sulphate solution to the mixture. A purple color indicates the presence of protein.
