Rashtrakutas were subordinates to the Chalukyas. After sometime, Dantidurga a Rashtrakuta general overthrew his Chalukyan overlord and performed the Hiranya Garba Yajna with help of Brahmin Priests. They then waged war in which Rashtrakutas won.
