hiya friend!

The absorption of food takes place in the small intestine.

In the small intestine there are some finger-like projections called villi(singular:villus). The villi are made up of thin wall that provides a shorter path for the diffusion of food and minerals. And it also has a large surface area that helps in the absorption of fatty acids in the blood stream.

Inside the villi there are microvilli that increases the absorption. The microvilli is covered with digestive enzymes that helps in breaking down carbohydrates and proteins and absorbs them.

hope it helps...

Our digestive system is composed of certain organs which take part in the digestion process in a certain sequence and continue the process. It starts from "mouth" and ends at "anus".

The digestion of food mainly occurs in the stomach where it comes from mouth and food pipe whereas small intestine involves in the absorption of food as the inner wall of it has numerous villi.

These villi "increase the surface area for absorption" and transfer the absorbed food to blood vessels which takes it to all body cells.
