Q I-A ) Read the following passage carefully and answer the following
question : ( Marks:6 )
A Blacksmith, who deeply loved God, had to face a lot of suffering. One of his
friends was a non-believer. He came to him one day and said, “How can you lay your trust in
God who sends suffering to you?” Quietly the Blacksmith, who was working on a metal to
bring a shape out of it, answered, ‘when I have to make a tool, I take a piece of iron and put it
into the fire. Then I strike it on the anvil to see if it will take temper. If it does, I know I can
make something out of it. But if not, I toss the metal on the scrap heap. This has been my
prayer to the Lord again and again- ‘Lord! Put me into the fire of suffering but I pray, dear
Lord, do not throw me on the scrap heap.’ And then he added, ‘My friend, every time I go
through pain and difficulties in my life, I rejoice, for I know God is shaping me to be a useful
tool for his work.’ These words of Blacksmith touched the heard of his non believer friend and
made him see the problems in his own life in a different light. He hugged the Blacksmith and
said, “Thank you”, and went back with a broad smile on his face and joy in his heart.

Hittites
Blacksmithing origins first trace back to 1500 BC when the Hittites discovered the process of forging and tempering iron ore. When the Hittites were scattered in 1200 BC so was their knowledge and understanding of basic iron work.
