Q. If a bus travelling at 20 m/s is subjected to a steady deceleration of 5 m/s square . How long will it take to come to rest?

anwesha2672: Sorry I calculated displacement in place of time. Your answer is 4sec

Given :

Initial velocity (u) = 20 m/s

Final velocity (v) = 0 m/s

Acceleration (a) = – 5 m/s2

a= v-u/t

Now, Time taken t = v – u / a

 t = 0 – 20/– 5 = 4 sec

Apply the third equation of uniformly accelerated motion

Which is

v²-u²=2aS

Where v is final velocity

u is initial velocity

a is acceleration

Ans S is displacement

v=0

u=20m/s

a=-5m/s²

S=?

0²-20²=2(-5)(S)

-400/-10=S

40m

40m is your answer

Hope it helps
