If two waves are represented by y1 = 4 sin(ωt) and y2 = 3 sin (ωt + π/2) a then calculated the amplitude of superposed waves.

solution : it is given that,

y1 = 4sin(ωt)

y2 = 3sin(ωt + π/2)

amplitude of first wave, A1 = 4

amplitude of 2nd wave, A2 = 3

phase difference, Φ = π/2

from superposition principle,

A = √{A1² + A2² + 2A1.A2.cosΦ}

= √{4² + 3² + 2(4)(3)cos(π/2)}

= √{16 + 9 + 24 × 0}

= √(25) = 5

hence, amplitude of superposed wave is 5
