Given :- In a 200 m race, Eswar gives Girish a start of 10 m and beats him by 10 m. Find the ratio of their speeds ?

Answer :-

→ Total length of race = 200 m .

since Eswar gives girish a start of 10 m.

then,

→ Distance run by Eswar = 200 m.

and,

→ Distance run by girish = 200 - 10 = 190 m .

also, given that, he beats girish by 10 m .

then, we can say that, When Eswar completes the race of 200 m , girish was 10 m behind.

therefore,

→ When Eswar runs 200 m = Girish runs (190 - 10) = 180 m.

→ Eswar distance / Girish distance = 200/180

→ Eswar distance : girish distance = 10 : 9 .

we know that,

  • when time is constant , speed ∝ distance.

hence,

→ Eswar speed : Girish speed = 10 : 9 (Ans.)
