Given - Weight of Joan - 300 N.

Distance of Joan from pivot - 2 metre

Distance of Tom from pivot - 1 metre

Find - Weight of Tom.

Solution - To create equilibrium on the see saw the torque has to be balanced. The formula to calculate the torque is - F * d, where f stands for force and d represents distance.

Thus, representing in mathematical expression -

Force 1 * D1 = Force2 * D2.

Left hand side represents Joan and right hand side represents Tom.

Keeping the values in equation-

300*2 = Force2*1

Force2 = 600 N.

Hence, weight of Tom is 600 N.
