Answer:

Let the numbers be x,y

⟹y=5x

21 is added

The numbers are

y+21,x+21

According to question

y+21=2(x+21)

5x+21=2x+42

5x=2x+21

Given :

  • One of the two number is 5 times another number.

To Find :

  • Find the numbers ?

Solution :

  • Let us assume :

➣ First number be x.

➣ Second number = 5x.

  • 21 is added to both the numbers, then one of the numbers become twice that of other new number.

Adding 21 to both the numbers :

  • First number = x + 21
  • Second number = 5x + 21

According to the question :

➣ 2(x + 21) = 5x + 21

➣ 2x + 42 = 5x + 21

➣ 42 - 21 = 5x + 2x

➣ 21 = 3x

➣ 21/3 = x

➣ 7 = x

➣ x = 7

We get :

  • First number = x = 7
  • Second number = 5x = 5(7) = 35

Hence,

  • The numbers are 7 & 35.
