process called cell division. It is of two types - mitosis and meiosis. Mitotic division leads to the formation of two daughter cells with equal number of chromosomes as the parent cells. It occurs during growth, repair and regeneration of cells. On the contrary, meiotic division leads to the formation of four cells with half the chromosome number as that of the parent cell. This type of division occurs during sexual reproduction.
