Q. Prepare a tree diagram that contains the main points and important supporting
details from the following text about the effects of the industrial revolution :
The Industrial Revolution brought vast changes in the way people work and live. It created
an industrialized society. It led to higher standards of living, as inexpensive inanufactured
goods came to the market. It increased trade between nations. On the other hand it brough
exploitation of workers; slums, and great suffering as a result of periodic unemployment.
The wonders of modern science are a result of the Industrial Revolution, but so are the
horrors of modern war. The Industrial Revolution brought on the rise of capitalism, socialism
and communism. Labour unions, social legislation, government regulation all are outgrowth
of the Industrial Revolution.
People in an industrialised society do not have to grow their own food or make at home al
the products they use. They work for wages and buy their food and other necessities. They hav
better facilities in their homes. But they have to cope with problems such as congestion, traffi
jams, lack of water and electric supply and the like and ever-increasing pollution.
(periodic -- occurring regularly, outgrowths-here, results. congestion-overcrowdedness.)
