- we know colour in both compoumds is due to " charge transfer " . but our question is that why colour is different .
- In molecular orbital theory, as the covalent character increases the homo-lumo gap decreases, and the excitation happens more easily. Thus the colour intensity increase.
- in sni2 charge transfer from I->Sn
- inSncl2 charge transfer from Cl->Sn
- iodide ion has large size then chloride ion and hence large Polarisability and large covalent character and hence large intensity.
