We have to find the most probable speed for hydrogen molecule at 0°C.

solution : molar mass of hydrogen in kg = 2 × 10^-3 kg

temperature, T = 0°C = 273 K

A speed in which the largest number of molecules travel in a sample of a gas is known as most probable speed.

according to Maxwell - Boltzmann's distribution curve, it is the peak value of curve. and is given by, v = √{2RT/M}

now most probable speed of hydrogen, v = √{(2 × 25/3 J/mol/K × 273 K)/(2 × 10^-3 kg)}

= √(25 × 91 × 10³)

= 1.5 × 10³

Therefore the most probable speed of hydrogen at 0°C is 1.5 × 10³ m/s
