The North Eastern Council is a statutory advisory body comprising of Chief Ministers and Governors of all the eight north eastern states of India namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. It was established in 1972. The President of India appoints the Governor of one of the north eastern states as the Chairman of the North Eastern Council.
