Correct Question

• The ratio of the parallel side of a trapezium is 2 : 3 . The distance between them is 15 m. If the area of the trapezium is 600 m² , find the length of the parallel side.

Given

  • Ratio of the parallel sides of a trapezium = 2 : 3
  • Distance between the parallel sides = 15 m
  • Area of trapezium = 600 m²

• To find

  • Length of the parallel side

• Solution

Let the parallel sides of trapezium be 2x and 3x.

Area of trapezium = 1/2 × sum of parallel sides × distance between the parallel sides

⇒ 600 = 1/2 × (2x + 3x) × 15

⇒ 600 = 1/2 × 5x × 15

⇒ 600 = 37.5x

⇒ 600/37.5 = x

⇒ x = 16

The value of x = 16

The length of parallel sides of trapezium -

  • 2x = 2 × 16 = 32 m
  • 3x = 3 × 16 = 48 m
