Using Fehling's test. Formaldehyde form red precipitate of cuprous oxide along with methanoic acid when fehling solution(alkaline solution of CuSO4 containing Na K tartarate) is added 2 it whereas benzaldehyde do not give fehling solution test as it is not a good reducing agent.
