Ans 1. The basic rules are:

The rules should lay down how the rulers are to be chosen in future.

These rules should also determine what the elected governments are empowered to do and what they cannot do.

These rules should decide the rights of the citizens. -

Ans 2. The documents taken to form the Indian Constitution were:
The Indian Constitution was drafted by Motilal Nehru and eight other leaders in 1928.

The resolution at the Karachi Session of the INC on how independent India’s Constitution should look like, in 1931.

Both these documents were committed to the inclusion of universal adult franchise right to freedom and quality and protecting the right of minorities in the constitution of independent India.

Ans 3. These debates which are organised in 12 volumes are an essential guide to the process of drafting and creating the Constitution of India, 1950. The members of the Constituent Assembly were elected on the basis of limited franchise – by the members of the Provincial Legislative Assemblies.

Ans 4. 9 December 1946: The first meeting of theConstituent Assembly was held in the constitution hall (now the Central Hall of Parliament House). Demanding a separate state, the Muslim League boycotted the meeting. Sachchidananda Sinha was elected temporary president of the assembly, in accordance with French practice.

Ans 5.Since 1950, the blacks, coloured and Indians fought against the apartheid system. They launched protest marches and strikes. The African National Congress (ANC) was the umbrella organisation
which led the struggle against the policies of segregation. This included many workers’ union and the Communist Party. Many sensitive whites also joined the ANC to oppose apartheid and played a leading role in this struggle. Several countries also denounced apartheid as unjust and racist.

Ans 6. On 29 August 1947, the Constituent Assembly set up a Drafting Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar to prepare a draft Constitution for India. While deliberating upon the draft Constitution, the assembly moved, discussed and disposed of as many as 2,473 amendments out of a total of 7,635 tabled.
