The amount of light that the substance allow to pass through it determines whether the object is opaque, transparent or translucent.

PETERPARKER10: Thanks but i wanted to know the atomic structure of the object which will allow light to pass through it. Does it depend on the wavelength of the light ?

Transparency is the property of opaque, transparent and translucent

PETERPARKER10: YEAH I KNEW THAT ALREADY BUT WHAT I AM ASKING IS HOW DOES THE ATOMIC STRUCTURE OF SOMETHING DETERMINES ITS TRANSPARENCY
