Fractional distillation is the separation of amixture into its component parts, or fractions, separating chemical compounds by theirboiling point by heating them to a temperatureat which one or more fractions of the compound will vaporize. It uses distillation tofractionate. Generally the component parts have boiling points that differ by less than 25 °C from each other under a pressure of oneatmosphere. If the difference in boiling points is greater than 25 °C, a simple distillation is typically used.

Fractional distillation is a process by which components in a chemical mixture are separated into different parts according to their different boiling points. Fractional distillation is used to purify chemicals and to separate mixtures to obtain their components.
