Additive nature of electric charges

Like mass, electric charge is a scalar quantity. Just as the mass of an extended body is the sum of the masses of its individual particles, the total charge of an extended body is the algebraic sum of all the charges located at different points inside it.

Thus electric charge is additive in nature.

Additivity of electric charge:-

It means that the total charge of a system is the algebraic sum of all the individual charges located at different points inside the system.

If a system contains charges q1, q2, q3 ,..., qn

then the total charge of the system is

Q = q1 + q2 + q3 + ..... + qn

Hello!!

Additivity of charge means that charges can be added by simple algebraic maths.

For example:

If a system contain two point charges q1 and q2 then the total charge of the system id obtained simply by adding q1 and q2

Thanks!!❤
