Basically all the atoms other than Carbon and Hydrogen are called heteroatoms.
Ex.- Oxygen,nitrogen,e.t.c.

Atom or groups of atoms which can replace the hydrogen atoms from hydrocarbons. ex-oxygen , nitrogen etc.
