All of the approximately 40,000 miners in northern Pakistan complain of lung problems from both silicosis and carbon monoxide poisoning. However, the leading causes of death in this extreme environment are being buried under rock falls or falling from a perch on a sheer cliff face.

Q:- What makes gemstone mining difficult in Pakistan?

Ans:- The working conditions of mine and quarry workers are pathetically unsafe and poor which leads to the routine occurrence of accidents. They workers labour without any safety measures. Just a rope is the tool for them to climb up the mountains. They are well aware of the possibility of death or injury.
