Robert Hooke discovered cells. Once he was observing a small piece of cork under a self-designed microscope when he saw that the cork resembled the structure of a honeycomb consisting of many little compartments. He called these compartments cell.Cell is a latin word meaning 'a little room'.

by Robert hook ,a British scientist discovered cell in year 1665 . he observed thin slices of cork ( soft bark from oak tree) under a simple magnifying device which he made himself. he observed that the cork resembled the structure of honey comb consisting of many empty spaces or empty box .he thought that the cork was made up of very small cavities as cell . the word cell is derived from latin word which means " little room"
