To remove these harmful or not so useful components we need to separate them and for which we employ many separation techniques like handpicking, filtration, distillation etc. For example:
(a) Tea leaves are separated from the liquid tea with a strainer while serving tea.
(b) Stone pieces, which are harmful when ingested, are separated from the wheat, rice or pulses by the method of handpicking.
