the reason is that the fecl2 which formed during the reaction gets break down to form hcl which led to use of hcl or amount of hcl for the reaction is less.

Explanation:

mns the over all reaction required less amount of hcl as it itself produces hcl.

=>> coz when iron scrap takes reaction it forms HCL ... but then reaction needs lower amount of HCL ... this why this reaction is preferred more ...
