There are two types of reproduction.
1.) Asexual reproduction :-
- In this the offspring arises from a single parent.
- Definition- The mode of reproduction in which only single parent is involved to produce new organisms.
- It does not use special cells known as 'sex cells'.
- It is the simplest method of reproduction.
- Some examples - Binary fission in Amoeba, regeneration in Planaria, fragmentation in Spirogyra etc.
2.) Sexual reproduction
- In this the offspring arises from two parents.
- Definition- The mode of reproduction in which two parents are involved to produce a new organism.
- Male sex cells (male gametes) and female sex cells (female gametes) are needed.
- In this sex cells of one parent fuses with sex cells of the other parent this leads to the formation of a new cell known as 'Zygote'.
- Some examples- Human, fish , hens , cats , dogs , horses etc reproduce by this method.
- Most of the flowering plants also reproduce by this method.
