Q1. A certain sum of money was divided
among A, B and C in a certain way. C got half
as much as A and B together got. A got one
third of what B and C together got. What is the
ratio of A's share to that of C's share?

It is a simple numerical of simultaneous equations.

Let, the distributions received by A, B, C be x, y, z respectively.

So, from first condition,

x = 0.5 ( y + z )

So, 2x - y - z + 0................ ( 1 )

From second condition,

y = 1/3 ( x + z )

So, x - 3y + z + 0 .................... ( 2 )

Now, from third condition, x = y + 500 ........... ( 3 )

Putting value of ( 3 ) in eqn ( 1 ), we get,

y - z = -1000

So, z = y + 1000...... ( 4 )

Now, From ( 2 ), ( 3 ) & ( 4), we get,

y = 1500/-

Putting this value in eqn ( 3 ) and ( 4 ) we get,

x = 2000/-

z = 2500/-

Hence, the amount distributed among A, B and C was 2000/-, 1500/- & 2500/- respectively.

Best Wishes.
