The astrologer sat under the boughs of a spreading Tamarind tree. This place did not have the benefit of municipal lighting and hence, the astrologer had to rely on light of a flare which crackled up and smoked up above the groundnut heap nearby. Lack of light enchanted the customers. Crisscross of light rays created by hissing gas light from shops and moving shadows served the astrologer well. The darkness acted like an allure and attracted customers to the astrologer's shop. Hence, the astrologer preferred to work in gleams of light from shops around him in order to attract customers to his trade.
