Q1. Define the following terms:
a) Cartilage
b) Irreversible change
c) Saturated solution
d) Winnowing
e) Reversible change
Answers
Answer:
a. Cartilage
Cartilage is a tough but flexible tissue that is the main type of connective tissue in the body. Around 65–80% of cartilage is water, although that decreases in older people, and the rest is a gel-like substance called the 'matrix' that gives it its form and function.
b. Irreversible change
Changes which can happen only once and cannot be reversed are called irreversible changes.
c. Saturated solution
Solvents which cannot take more solute than the required amounts are called saturated solutions.
d. Winnowing
Winnowing is a farming method developed by ancient people for separating grain from chaff. It is also used to remove weevils or other pests from stored grain. Threshing, which is the loosening of grain or seeds from the husks and straw, comes before winnowing.
e. Reversible change
Changes which can happen once and can be reversed are called reversible changes.
