Q1. The mechanism of breathing involves two main processes: inspiration and expiration. Inspiration occurs when the diaphragm and the external intercostal muscles contract. Expiration occurs when the diaphragm and the intercostal muscles relax.

Q2. breathing : i) Breathing involves the process of inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide. ii) Breathing takes place in the lungs. Also involves the nose, mouth and pharynx iii) There is no production of energy in this process. iv) No enzymes are used during the process.

respiration : i) Cellular respiration is the process of breaking down of glucose to produce energy, which is then used by cells to carry out the cellular function. ii) Respiration take place in cells iii) Energy is produced and released in the form of ATP. iv) A large number of enzymes are used during the process.
