Applications of metals and non metals:-

Metals⸻

➤ All those elements which form positive ions by loosing electrons are called metals. They have 1 to 3 electrons im their vallence shell.

Applications: -

  • Metallic lustre :- Metals have shinning surface . Aluminum and magnesium appear white , gold is yellow and copper is reddish brwon in colour.

  • Hardness :- This varies from metal to metal . Metals are generally hard. Sodium and potassium are so soft that they can cut with knife .

  • Melleability :- Some metals can be beaten into thin sheets .eg - gold and silver.

  • Sorority:- metals are sonorous. they produce sound on striking a hard surface.

Non metals ⸻

➤ All those elements which form negative ions by gaining electrons are called non metals.

They have 4 to 8 electrons in their valence shell.

Applications:-

  • Non metals are neither ductile nor malleable.

  • They are either solids or gasses except bromine which is liquid.

  • They are non lustrous and cannot be polished.

  • They are brittle in nature.
