Helen Keller fell victim to an illness suddenly when she was 19 months old. This was caused due to severe congestion of the brain and stomach. The doctors even thought it was fatal though Helen came out of her predicament as suddenly as she fell victim to it. Though she covered from the grave illness it left her both deaf and blind. That is why Helen says, "a happy days does not last long"
Helen's relationship with her sister Mildred was one of jealousy initially as her sister was getting all the attention as a new born and left Helen craving for attention. This was further aggravated by her predicament after the illness. Helen and Mildred became close when Helen had learnt to overcome her drawbacks and could get back to feeling compassion and love, in spite of her sister not understanding her sign language and she could not hear her sister's words.
Helen had a naturally eager and self-assured disposition. Whatever she observed she would want to imitate. She could utter many words when she was just six months. She was curious by nature and had an eager wish to learn about everything at a very early age. She was a naturally endowed, vibrant and bright, personality so she attracted everyone's attention.
