Answer:

The ball lost when the boy was playing with this. As the ball has lost into the water and can't get back As also same our childhood days which we spend can't came back in our life if ones passed.

The poet wants to realize the pain of loss to the boy that is why he does not offer him money to buy another ball.

Answer:

The lost ball symbolises the lost childhood of the boy as the ball carried all the childhood memories of the boy with it . The metaphor of the lost ball is beautifully linked to the loss of the sweet childhood. No amount of money can buy the ball back that has been lost forever. Similarly, no worldly wealth can buy back the lost childhood. The poet doesn't want to intrude on the boy by offering him money because he want the boy to realise himself the pain of loss. The poet suggests that from the loss of the ball, the boy is learning how to stand up in a world of possessions where he will lose things, will buy some more to replace the ones lost, but would never be able to buy back the thing that he had lost.
