  1. In very simple animals, materials are transported through diffusion. In complex animals, there is a special transport system to carry oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients, waste products, food and various other substances from one part of the body to the other.
  2. These include oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients (such as glucose and amino acids), hormones and waste chemicals such as urea. These substances are transported in a medium called blood through the body through tubes called blood vessels.
  3. There Are Two Types of Circulation: Pulmonary Circulation and Systemic Circulation. Pulmonary circulation moves blood between the heart and the lungs. It transports deoxygenated blood to the lungs to absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide. The oxygenated blood then flows back to the heart.
  4. Open circulatory systems are systems where blood, rather than being sealed tight in arteries and veins, suffuses the body and may be directly open to the environment at places such as the digestive tract. Open circulatory systems use hemolymph instead of blood
