Given : f(x) = x²

To find :  simplify f(x)-f(1)/x-1

Solution:

f(x) = x²

f(1) = 1² = 1

f(x)-f(1)/(x-1)  = ( x²  - 1) /(x - 1)

= (x + 1)(x -1 )/(x -1 )

= x + 1

f(x)-f(1)/(x-1)  = x + 1
