HELLO THERE!

Question 1 asks for the type of Combustion reaction and a reaction (sample) when:

(i) There is a limited supply of Oxygen.

When there is a limited supply of oxygen, we call the reaction as Incomplete Combustion (of fuel). In this case, the products we get are Carbon monoxide (CO) and water.

Consider Ethane as the fuel. Then,

2C₂H₆ + 5O₂ ------> 4CO + 6H₂O

(ii) There is sufficient supply of air.

This type of combustion is called as Complete combustion (of fuel). In this case, the products that we get are carbon dioxide and water.

Consider the same compound, ethane as an example. The reaction is:

2C₂H₆ + 7O₂ -------> 4CO₂ + 6H₂O.

That's it!

Thanks :)
