The extract has been taken from the story "The Lost Child" by Mulk Raj Anand.
1) The mother said these words to her child.
2) The mother and father had brought the child to the village fair.
3) The child was eyeing a toy. When he asked for it, his father looked at him with tremendous displeasure. The mother was more loving and knew how to handle the situation. She tried to draw the child's attention away from the toy and the father and so wanted the child to look at the mustard field.
4) The word 'flashy' means extremely bright, almost to the point of hurting the eyes. The synonym of 'flashy' is the word 'gaudy', which has been used to describe the wings of the dragon-flies.
