Q1: Read the following passage carefully and answer the given questions:
Lions and tigers are two different species. They look different, they have different
lifestyle, they vocalize differently, and they generally live on different continents.
Yet when they are brought together artificially, they can interbreed. Such hybrids
are called tigons and ligers.
In case of tigons and ligers, successful interbreeding is the key and the hybrid
offsprings are usually sterile and short-lived. The life span of many big hybrid cats
is short and they seem prone to cancers and other illnesses.
Tigons are the opposite of ligers and have a tiger father and lioness mother. The
breeding of ligers has always been easily accomplished, both by accident and
design. Tigons, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to breed and are very
rare.
Until recently, there were no recorded living tigons. However, the Australian
National Zoo at Canberra houses tigons. According to reports, the pair of tigon
twins joined the collection at Australia's National Zoo around Christmas 2000.
The male and female were bred accidentally at a circus, the offspring of Bengal tiger
and a lioness. After being handraised, they eventually were moved to a private
facility where they were housed for another five years. The quality of their housing
was questioned and after communication with the state government an alternative
home was eventually sought at the National Zoo.
The pair is more than fifteen years old and in good health. The duo consumes
around 4 kg of meat per day, with one or two starve days a week. The two are fed
a mixture of beef, horse, kangaroo, chicken, goat and rabbit.
