Q1. The wires along the roads carrying electricity do not have a plastic covering like the wires used at homes. We see that there is not much loss of energy. Why?
Q2. Before the water starts boiling we see bubbles coming from the inner surface of a pan .From where do these bubbles come?
Q4. What is waste management? Is garbage disposal the responsibility of the government only?
Q5. Everybody seems to be consuming oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. How is the balance of these gases maintained?

Answers
Ans1. Most of the electricity carrying wires near highways do not have a plastic covering like the wires used at homes because air is a bad conductor of electricity. Hence there is no substantial loss of energy during the flow of electricity in the overhead electric wires on the road and at homes, the plastic covering is used as insulator.
Ans2. Air bubbles form first, long before heating water reaches its boiling point. Tap water contains dissolved air. As the temperature at the bottom of the pan rises, hidden air is forced out of solution, forming visible bubbles.
Ans3. (a) The proper disposal of garbage is the responsibility of every citizen in the country apart from the government and local municipal corporations. To keep people healthy and to avoid the spread of diseases, a clean and garbage-free environment is necessary. This can be achieved by making sure that the garbage is disposed of in a proper manner.
(b) It is possible to reduce the problems relating to disposal of garbage by adopting the following measures:
(1) Disposal of garbage only at appropriate places like dustbins, trash cans, etc. and not at places like streets, roads, and parks.
(2) Reusable items from garbage should be separated before the final disposal.
(3) Follow the principle of 3 R's
Reduce- The amount of waste we generate must be reduced by using the minimum amount of resources.
Reuse- Using certain resources again and again until they become obsolete. Example- plastic bottles of jam or pickle can be used for storing things in the kitchen.
Recycle- Some items from the garbage can be sent for recycling and be made into new things instead of disposing of.
Ans4. During respiration carbon dioxide gas is released to air. But green plants during photosynthesis use carbon dioxide of air for preparing food and they release oxygen gas in the air. Thus the balance of oxygen in air is maintained.
